We are living in strange times, and we count ourselves fortunate to be able to continue communicating with friends and family, even if we can't give them a physical hug. 

We're not booking any physical fayres at the moment, but we hope to be back out 'on the road' before Christmas. Here's a lovely multi-colour SunCatcher in the shape of a hot-air balloon.Balloon

This has a clear glass base shaped like the balloon. Each of the main panels of the balloon is then cut to shape by hand, and test fitted to see that all is well. The basket is then cut and fitted. Small glass granules, known as Frit, is used to fill the gaps between the pieces, and highlight the seams of the balloon. It's all fired to over 800 C and then drilled to accept a hanging chain.

Butterfly 01This lovely butterfly was made using a casting technique. The first thing we did was to collect some of the glass offcuts from our recent projects, and cut it into small granules. Next we cut the shape we needed from ceramic paper, and filled the space with the glass granules. One Full Fuse later and we have a basic butterfly shape. This technique tends to leave some sharp edges - not good for fingers, so we then use a glass grinder to smooth off the edges and make any fine adjustments to the shape. We then fire polish the piece, which heats it hot enough to put a shine back on the areas that were ground off, but without being hot enough to cause the shape to change. Once it's cool, the hanging bail is glued on and the cord strung through.

This fellow has a wingspan of 12 cm and is 8 cm front to back.

These two be19/053auties are great for hanging in the window or out in the garden. They really catch the light.

The Red Bird on the left sports a sparkling blue eye made from special Dichroic Glass. Both are formed using hand-cut glass pieces, fused together in a single fusing cycle.

Each of hangers is supplied already to hang, with either a ribbon or cord, dependent upon the type of hanger.

 

19/082Hearts are a tricky shape to cut by hand. The glass doesn't like to break cleanly around concave upper part of the shape.

Fortunately, this one came out fine!

This is a very simple but striking piece made from a single layer of clear glass onto which we've put some glass Confetti - very thin pieces of glass that look like - confetti.

Once the piece has been fully fused to melt the confetti into the base shape, we've drilled a hole to accept the hanging cord.

Equally at home inside your home, outside in your garden, or maybe even on your Christmas tree, this piece loves the sun, or any other light, shining on it.
